Jochen Schuster started his career working at Sony Music Germany in Frankfurt. As Senior Product Manager he worked for Sony Music Media and was responsible for new business development and creating new compilation concepts. After two years he was headhunted by the biggest children Music- and Radio label Polygram and became Marketing Director. He developed leading children brands in this segment. After only one year he was promoted to Marketing and A&R Director for the traditional and very successful German Label Polydor Records. He was responsible for all the the big German mainstream artists managing more than 35 million turnover per year. He worked with artists like Udo Lindenberg, Nena, Matthias Reim, Howard Carpendale, Kelly Family, Andre Rieu etc. After 4 years he also became head of the international department where he signed acts like Meatloaf, Bryan Adams, Ace of Base and Rick Astley.
After Vivendi took over the whole firm group, Jochen became Managing Director for the label Polydor as well as Island Records managing more than 40 million turnover and 50 people. In this phase of his career he was responsible for many breaking acts like Tokio Hotel, Rosenstolz, Aura Dione, Milow, The BossHoss, Ich und Ich, Stromae, Till Brönner, Stefanie Heinzmann, A-ha, Caro Emerald, Adoro, Lena, Juli, Barbara Schöneberger, Rea Garvey, Sunrise Avenue, Silly, Helene Fischer, Avicii etc. selling over 10 million albums reaching 80 platinum and gold awards.
Next to that he was also in charge for all collaborations with TV formats. Under his responsibility Germany’s Got Talent became one of the biggest music format in German television. All formats with legendary host, musician and producer Stefan Raab were realized in his department. He even was part of the jury in one season.
He was in charge of the Eurovision song contest for over 10 years including the legendary success of Lena winning the contest in 2010 in Oslo and then selling over 1 million records all over Europe.
Due to his very close network with the Dutch music and entertainment scene, he managed to sign the rights for „The Voice of…“ worldwide. The first season of „The Voice of Germany“ was immediately a huge success and resulted in platinum award for the winner Ivy Quainoo.
Last but not least next to running his own publishing edition with BMG rights he is also shareholder and Managing Director of the direct-to-fan platform for artists and creators www.getnext.to.
